Prospective buyers can apply to rent an apartment on board initially to see if they'd like to buy. For most owners, The World serves as a three- or four-month vacation retreat, promising a healthy dose of culture and adventure or just plain relaxation. Few live full-time on the ship, and some rent out their apartments from time to time. The owners who live full time and maintain homes in the US too are subjected to pay tax to the government. Rentals are only available for six or more days with studios going for $1,300 to $2,300 a day.
